Three Colombian cities were honored at the World Travel Awards, regarded in the industry as the 'Oscars' of tourism.

During the event, held this weekend in Quito (Ecuador), Bogotá was awarded as the best business destination, San Andrés and best beach destination, and Medellin as the best destination for meetings and conferences.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Sandra Howard Taylor, stressed the importance of these awards within the industry professionals and congratulated Colombian cities, because thanks to them Colombia reaffirms its leading role in regional tourism map.

"These distinctions translate to more travelers and business opportunities for our destinations. Having the best beach in the region, and the best destination for business meetings and conferences reaffirms bets we have done together with the private sector in the promotion of our unique experiences and tourism, and the differential approach that we have given to marketing of these destinations among those who make purchasing decisions in each of these segments, "added Howard.

The director of the District Institute of Tourism (IDT), Tatiana Piñeros Laverde, who received the award on behalf of tourism in Bogota, said the city beat out cities like Buenos Aires, Guayaquil, Lima, Montevideo, Quito, Rio de Janeiro , Santiago and Sao Paulo, nominated category (business).

"It's a recognition of the progress that has taken the capital and business center, corporate and even golf tourism," said Piñeros.

Exalt the World Travel Awards for 21 years of excellence in the travel industry, tourism and hospitality and winners are chosen by voting of the business sector and the general public.
