Peru won 11 awards as the best tourist destination

Peru was chosen as the best culinary and cultural destination, in addition to other awards granted by the World Travel Awards 2014, at its twenty-first edition held in Quito (Ecuador), and was announced by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva.

Additionally, Lima awards for best destination, best destination with legacy, best cultural destination in the region and better getaway destination was South America.

On the other hand the Swissotel Lima Gabo in the category Best Business Hotel in the region and the JW Marriot hotel as the best in South America.

The winners are selected by internet voting and are nominated by travel industry professionals.

Minister Silva added that the country receives more than 3 million tourists a year, but the goal is 4 million tourists and for this expansion work performed in the Jorge Chavez airport and the creation of the airport in Cusco Chinchero.

It also stated that the rate of domestic tourism is growing at rates of 4%, cities like Abancay and Huancavelica are being included in national destinations.
